While car lovers are gathering in Frankfurt for the annual motor show, we are reflecting on the safest cars in the industry. While Porsche Taycan is causing a lot of interest, we should not forget that this is the time of electric vehicles. These will dominate the markets in the future. When choosing an electric car, safety should be put first.
Top Safety Pick+ Award
Tesla 2019 Model 3 is considered to be one of the safest cars in the world. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awards the certificate titled “Top Safety Pick+”. This year, Tesla earned it after magnificent performance at crash test. The other car that also earned this prestigious title was Audi e-tron, a large SUV.
It would be fair to say that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is a non-profit financed by the insurance industry. Both Tesla and Audi model won the above-mentioned certificates based on the standard equipment.
Tesla Model 3
Tesla Model 3 prides itself with the metal structure. Actually, it is a combination of aluminum and steel. This very fact confirms its overall strength. This vehicle has also been acknowledged as the one having the fastest acceleration among electronic cars. Namely, it goes from 0 to 60 mph in 3.2. seconds. A carbon fiber spoiler improves stability at high speeds. Tesla Model 3 comes with two independent motors. This is quite cozy. This car will basically never let you down. It can drive on either of the motors, providing for safe drive in case one of the motors stops for whatever reason. Tesla will get you to your destination.
Tesla Model 3 also features 360 degrees cameras covering rear, side and forward-facing areas. That way, Tesla provides maximum visibility. The equipment also includes the 160m radar, enabling the driver to view the distant objects.
If you haven’t had a chance to take a look inside of this car, these are the basics. Tesla unlocks with the help of your smartphone, apart from using traditional keys. There is a 15-inch touchscreen where you can access all driver controls. This model features advanced autopilot safety settings. The most breathtaking visual impression relates to the glass rooftop. It literally stretches all the way from front to back, giving the sense of a car being on with the surroundings.
The Crash Test
We already mentioned that one of the most impressive visuals in Model3 is the glass rooftop. Strangely, this feature passed extremely well in a crash test. It resisted four times its own mass!
As for the other features, it earned good marks for crash worthiness in the categories which the Institute holds most important. This car’s structure proved well in one of the most challenging crash tests: the driver-side small overlap front test. Furthermore, this model successfully passed moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests.
Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Chief Research Officer, David Zuby, reportedly stated: “There’s no need to trade away safety for a lower carbon footprint when choosing a vehicle.” Apparently, we should all have this on mind when choosing a vehicle.
